Charles Asch
Cello & Piano
Charles Asch received his master's degree in Classical Cello from Juilliard in 2011, and completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts at University of Minnesota in the spring of 2017. He performs throughout the Twin Cities, including solo cello recitals, chamber music recitals, and performances with local orchestras. Dr. Asch has served as music faculty at University of Minnesota-Morris, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and at MacPhail Center for Music. He has performed with Lyra Baroque Orchestra and MN Opera.
Dr. Asch has taught at Mount Calvary Academy of Music for five years, with several beginning and advanced cello students from the Minnetonka, Orono and Chanhassen school districts. Along with performance, Dr. Asch's expertise is in beginning cellists, to help establish their proper form and playing style. His teaching method is informed by his studies with nationally known cello teachers including Tanya Remenikova at UMN, Richard Aaron at Juilliard and Hans Jorgen Jensen at Northwestern University. He has taught privately in the Twin Cities for over 7 years. In his method, proper form leads to good tone, to greater ease and enjoyment in playing. Dr. Asch works with intermediate and advanced students on audition preparation for orchestras. Several of his students have been members of Greater Twin Cities Youth Orchestras, Wayzata Symphony Orchestra, the University of Minnesota Campus Orchestras, or become leaders within their school orchestra programs. Students of all ages, from beginner to advanced, are welcome in his studio.
Dr. Asch is accepting students at Mount Calvary Academy of Music on Monday and Thursday evenings. For lesson placement by phone call 952-474-8893 ext 111, or online please click here.
